Do cell phone companies make phones that use a universal battery?

I recently purchased a nice Motorrizr which i returned because it is 2 years old, and I dont want to be told that that particular battery is no longer made and you have to buy a new phone. You would think that they would make one battery that fits alot of phones so there is always a fresh supply of newly made batteries for those phones. It probably is a marketing strategy. Thanks for all info.

There is no such thing as a standardized battery for cell phones.

Each model has a different form factor and each ahs different power requirements.

You should be able to get a sweet deal on a new phone every two years without having it affect your bank balance too much.

I would check out places like http://www.goingcellular.com or http://www.prepaidrevieews.com or http://www.phonescoop.com to get up to speed on what is out there on the market as far as current technology is concerned.

Realistically, this type of technology is growing at a rapid pace and you will start to see that "2 year" window shrink to 6 months or less.

Get with the times and get a new phone -- the days of keeping your cell phone for 6 years are over. LOL

Most of the time, I can get batteries for phones that are no longer current models for quite sometime --and those are coming from AT&T preferred suppliers. A note about batteries...these days ...by the time a customer might consider replacing the battery ...they are eligible to upgrade --and that accomplishes two things ---a new battery and a new phone with a new warranty. Also remember that ...with AT&T at least ....batteries are (now) also covered undered your one year warranty (batteries/accessories were not previously covered ...and I have not heard of any other carrier covering batteries for the full 1 year warranty)

Edit: One other note ...don't worry about how long a phone as been part of the current line up ...most are not there for "years" ...and if they are ...they are a good phone and popular and have stayed there for a reason. The moto razr, for instance has been in the line longer than any other.

as far as i'm concerned cellphone companies do not make phones that use a universal battery.

best thing you can do now is to check which type of battery the motorrizr uses and to see if 2nd hand cellphone shops sell that type of batteries. these shops often re-sell phones and their parts that people sell to them.

some nokia phone uses the same model of battery. and they make and sell those as parts. so, change to nseries.

did you check on eBay for replacement batteries for your cell phone? Mine is about 6yrs old and I often can get replacements there.

contact motorola and see if you can purchase the battery from them.
