How does phone insurance work with Cingular?

Do you have to bring in your phone to a Cingular store so they make sure you haven't already broken it before trying to get a new one? I'm guessing you do but I wanna make sure.

Also, if I "break" my phone, do I need to bring in my phone to the Cingular store if I report it broken to get a new one? It's $50 to get a new one right?

Oh and almost forgot, can you instead kinda like put credit towards getting a newer, better phone? I doubt you can but I don't know what Cingular's rules are on that so yeah...

Thanks in advance.

the answers get a little better as they go along but please listen to me. First off it must now be added at time of purchase one of the new ways to stop fraud it can be added however by calling LOCKLINE this is actually who you will be dealing with and no you cannot put it towards an upgrade or get a different model unless they dont have yours because either it is out of stock or long discontinued. the actual number to insurance is 1-888-562-8662 that will get you to lockline the other goes to customer care and they will tell you to call the number i just gave. they will send you a prepaid sticker in the box to return your phone unless it is lost or stolen which go in the same category and in which case they will make you provide a police report if you dont return a broken device. it is a $50 deductible that goes on your bill. if you go into a store they will just give you the # i did and put you on the phone. hope that helps its a good question i just hate it when people answer things they dont know about when it could cause you wasted time and frustration.

The correct answer to your question is yes it is a $50 deduct able you will receive the same phone that you currently have or had you can go to a Cingular store or call customer care they will transfer you to the insurance dept. and give you the number to have yourself .....if your phone is not working right then you have a warranty that last for a year...what will happen is ...you call customer care and they will transfer you to the warranty ...warranty then will let you know when your new phone will come and let you know how to mail in your old phone as long as your phone does not have water damage....if you have water damage then just go with the insurance options .....either way you go with getting a new phone it will not take more than 2 days to get a new phone of the same model

1-800-801-1101 is the number to call for both warranty and insurance. Insurance is really a third party company that is truly an insurane company, so they do have a deductable of 50 dollars. Whatever you do, don't say you broke it on purpose. insurance fraud is running rampant in the cell phone field so they do what they can to stop it. insurance is incident based, so know when, where, how it happened.

if it's broken save yourself a trip to the store and call.

The answer below after mine is incorrect. Lockline isn't the provider anymore, a company called asurion is the insurance provider for cingular customers. and it's the number that's at the top of this message....

tell them you lost your phone in a cab on vacation. keep the broken for parts (broken.. heh), you get the same phone u have when you signed up for insurance, Im guessing you can upgrade for a fee. your next bill with have the deductable $
