How long must a phone be active before one can make a claim with Asurion for a replacement?

I have an old phone that is broken and wont turn on without a charger. My little sister wants that same model and is willing to pay the $50 deductible asap, so i just suggested she activate my old phone and do the insurance thing. I know it'll work but IF there is a certain amount of time before one can make a claim, how long is that time?
