What is the best cell phone for my family?

My husband and I are ditching the landline and going with cell phones. We don't do businiess on the run, just need a good phone and plan with easy messaging options. Any suggestions?

Since your ditching the landline a contract shouldnt be a issue, but make sure you get a service that will allow you to ad features, like GPS or Rhapsody.
