What is a smart chip on a cell phone and can I transfer to a new phone?

When I save text messages, it asks to save to a couple of sources, one including a smart chip. I need to get a new phone, but I want to save some text messages and pics to the new phone. Any suggestions?

A smart chip is a sim card. Like U.S. cellular and verizon wireless don't have them but AT&T does. Its like if you break your cell phone or want a new one you can buy a new one and just take a little card out of the back of the phone where you battery is and put it in the new phone and it automatically saves your text messages. Plus contacts if you save them to your sim.
